Dr. Emily Keener, a feminist psychologist, is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Slippery Rock University (SRU) and Visiting Scholar for University of Pittsburgh’s Gender, Sexuality, and Women Studies Program. Committed to gender inclusive language, Dr. Keener uses they/them/their pronouns. They earned their doctorate in lifespan developmental psychology at West Virginia University and their masters in experimental psychology at Radford University. Dr. Keener is interested in the complexity of gender. They seek to understand the distinctions and overlaps among gender identity, sexual identity, and gender expression.  For example, their research seeks to understand how situational factors influence gender-expression and how others perceive and respond to those behaviors in various contexts.
